NFL unveils logos for Super Bowl 50

Posted Jun 4, 2014

The logo features New Orleans Saints fans’ favorite color combo – black and gold!

New Orleans Saints

The National Football League released Wednesday logos for Super Bowl 50 slated for Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

To further elevate and celebrate the historic 50th Super Bowl, the NFL will break for one year its unique tradition of using Roman numerals to identify that season’s championship game.

The NFL will return to Roman numerals for Super Bowl LI, slated for February 2017 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Roman numerals were first employed for Super Bowl V (Baltimore Colts victory over the Dallas Cowboys in January 1971).

The new Super Bowl 50 logos – one for national use and one for regional – serve as tangible symbols of league’s celebration of the first 50 Super Bowls and a look ahead to the future. Super Bowl 50 will be televised by CBS.

Season-long plans will be announced in the months following Super Bowl XLIX Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

While continuing to feature the Vince Lombardi Trophy as the centerpiece of the Super Bowl logo, the use of “50” makes a bold statement about the Super Bowl and the historic 50th game. The gold “50” aligns with the preeminence of the Super Bowl, the silver trophy, and reflects the host region's historic Gold Rush in the broader setting of the Golden State.
