Ochsner Hosts The Perfect Pink Party Gala

Posted Oct 11, 2012

Proceeds from the event at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome benefit the Tom and Gayle Benson Cancer Center

On October 5, Ochsner hosted The Perfect Pink Party Gala on the turf at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, a fundraiser to benefit The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center on the Jefferson Highway campus of Ochsner Health System.

The event included a live auction, hosted by Growing Pains star Alan Thicke, as well as silent auction opportunities to benefit the cancer facility. R&B singer-songwriter Robin Thicke entertained the crowd with selections from his five albums, including his most recent album, Love After War.

The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center provides patients with a peaceful, healing environment. Patients receiving chemotherapy treatment on the fifth floor have sweeping views of the Mississippi River, while the interior decor has peaceful nature and water-inspired artwork. Experts agree that the healthcare environment—sights, smells, and sounds—makes a difference in the success of a patient’s treatment.

The new institute houses all of the cancer-related services a patient might need — from the finest cancer specialists and most advanced technologies to social workers and financial consultants.

The facility also houses a Hematology/Oncology Clinic and Chemotherapy Infusion Clinic, an area for Radiation Oncology and a Prostate Center. A multidisciplinary clinic in the building offers patients access to the full array of specialists and sub-specialists to meet the challenges presented by cancers.

The facility also addresses an important focus of the Ochsner multidisciplinary team approach: the social, physical, and emotional impacts of cancer treatment. The Center is home to chemotherapy classes designed for patients and families embarking on chemotherapy treatment and support groups available to all members of the community. Educational resources and regular support groups are available at this Center and are open to both Ochsner patients and any member of the community seeking support as they or a loved one battles cancer.
