Posted Jul 29, 2013

NewOrleansSaints.com will be visiting with a rookie every day of training camp. Today it's Terron Armstead

terrn armstead
Terron Armstead was selected by the Saints in the third round (75th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  The Cahokia, Ill., native appeared in 37 games, while starting his final 32 contests at left tackle. He recorded 314 knockdowns and also became an eight-time champion for the Arkansas-Pine Bluff track and field team. He caught the eyes of NFL scouts by running the fastest 40-yard dash time (4.71) by an offensive lineman in the history of the NFL Scouting Combine.

Armstead started all 12 games at left tackle his senior year and recorded 118 knockdowns and 47 TD-resulting blocks. He was named to the FCS All-American fist-time and also a member of the All-American Sleeper Team complied by The NFL Draft Report while earning All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors for the third consecutive season.

How does it feel coming from a small school to the NFL?

“Small school or not, I think it’s a big transition to come to the best of the best. If you come from the SEC or the SWAC it is still a transition.”

What are the biggest differences?

“The biggest thing in the NFL is the attention to detail, so precise on the small things.”

Who have you learned from the most during your transition?
Zach Strief since we play the same position. We both play tackle so he openly just helps me. He wants to see the whole team get better. Jahri Evans has tons of knowledge. Ben Grubbs has tons of knowledge so all of those guys.”

What is it like in the offensive line room?

“We have fun. It’s a veteran group so it’s not too much harping on each other or nitpicking about everything. Jahri Evans and Zach Strief are open. They see something that you did wrong and it’s not only Brett (Ingalls) or Frank (Smith) that will correct you, it can be those guys too.

What is your relationship like with Brett Ingalls?

“I have a really good relationship with him and Frank (Smith). They’re really good guys, really great guys, and actually great coaches. I’m glad I got the chance to be around those guys.”
